This 1981 Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans Am is one of 2,000 Daytona Pace Car Edition examples produced for the model year, and it is powered by a turbocharged 4.9-liter V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car was sold new by Don Ayres Pontiac in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and was acquired by the selling dealer in 2023. It is finished in white over red and black cloth upholstery and equipment includes the WS6 Special Performance Package, T-top roof panels, Recaro front seats, cruise control, and a Delco cassette stereo.
All Daytona Pace Car Trans Am Turbo cars were finished in white (11) with Daytona 500 Pace Car graphics. Exterior details include a shaker hood with a Trans Am decal, a rear deck spoiler, a blackout taillight panel, an external three-light boost indicator, T-top roof panels, and chrome side-splitter tailpipe extensions.
White-finished 15″ cast aluminum wheels with Firebird-logo center caps wear BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The WS6 Special Performance Package added power-assisted front and rear disc brakes as well as Special Handling Package suspension.
The Recaro front bucket seats are trimmed in black cloth with red inserts and are joined by a black dashboard and color-coordinated door panel inserts. Appointments include power windows and locks along with cruise control, a rear window defroster, and a Delco cassette stereo. The headliner shows dimpling.
The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a machined instrument panel housing an 85-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 28k miles.
The turbocharged 4.9-liter V8 features a four-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 210 horsepower and 345 lb-ft of torque when new. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
Manufacturer’s literature is also included in the sale along with a copy of the original sales paperwork, which is shown in the image gallery below.
