1964 Chevrolet K20 Pickup

Chevrolet abandoned 1950s styling in a big way in 1960, when it introduced the C/K series pickup trucks. The 1960 to 1965 models were leaner, more sculpted, roomier and offered more power than the previous generation. The C/K series styling was so popular that the basic design remained through the end of its production run in 1997. By 1963, one out of every three pickups were a Chevy. In 1963 alone, 483,119…

In 1963 alone, 483,119 Chevy trucks left the factory.

For consignment, a frame off restored K20 4×4 long bed pickup. This truck is truly all right when it comes to straight steel, lightly tinted windows, and a neat-o bed. Not to mention the surprise under the hood, (think 454 cubes of Chevrolet big block power), and your grandmother’s couch for a seat inside. These trucks are still wildly popular especially ones in this condition, so if interested or you just want to be fascinated…read on!

Exterior
Uber straight all steel panels which nearly perfectly mind their gaps and alignment, are all bathed and spit shined with deep sapphire blue 2 stage paint. You need to look very closely at the paint, as it is a really good job, and the viewer could nearly be tempted to dive in it is that deep under good lighting. Chrome is excellent, badging all correct and the cab windows have been tinted. A beautiful oak with a nice warm tint lines the pristine bed, along with the mounting stretchers that are polished stainless, and the Rhino-Liner type sprayed on coating on the sides and bulkhead. Rounding out the bed is a shaved handle tailgate that presents just as flawlessly as the rest of the truck. It looks perfect with the deep blue paint, lifted height, ultra shiny stainless, and tinted glass so much so, I wanted to get in and just ride in the bed…and I did for our test drive! The corners are topped off with deep dish polished Eagle 18″ rims and Nitto Grappler 33×12.50-18LT aggressively treaded rubber.

Interior
Straying far away from the utilitarian appearance that this truck was born with, the door panels are in fact not panels at all. Body matching sapphire blue provides the framework for the artistically done silver and gray painted steel insert. Door handles and cranks as well as a small armrest, float in this sea of high gloss metal and noted are wing windows and all rubber seals are near perfect and new. Looking inside more blue abounds with the dash sprayed in this exterior matching color. An original design has been retained but in front of the driver Dolphin gauges have been inserted into a polished and ribbed bezel. Heater slides are in the center along with a modern AM/FM stereo and below hangs an aftermarket A/C vent and an auxiliary water temperature gauge atop of that column is a thickly padded rally steering wheel with height adjustment. Fronting the dash is velour broadcloth tuck and roll bench seat in gray. Nicely preserved gray carpet floods the floors and a stitched gray vinyl headliner is above.

Drivetrain
Ok I’ll reveal the surprise with the pop of the large hood…drumroll please…a 454 cubic inch Chevrolet complete with a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, and chrome air cleaner assembly stares you down. With its gorgeous black block and intake, and the polished aluminum valve covers you will be able to look a good long time. A TH400 3-speed automatic transmission has been strapped to the back of the mill and throws power forward and back to Dana 60 axles. Twin cooling fans have been added to keep the temps in check and an aluminum radiator is on for the assist.

Undercarriage
With leaf spring suspension front and rear this truck will carry you down the road and over top of any obstacle. As expected, I would dare you to find any rust, just clean oak flooring and black structural steel all buttoned up and just right baby bear. Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners and a shiny stainless steel exhaust system crawls to the back of the truck being fed from like new headers.

Drive-Ability
As noted, I was in the back for the test, and our test driver took it easy on me for fear of him having to write these descriptions himself! The truck fired right up with a melodious sound and drove extremely smoothly for riding in the bed of it. The test driver noted that it steered very smoothly and had a nice comfortable ride in the cab. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I was happy upon our return to be unmarred cargo. I guess I’ll be called upon to write the next one!

Just a beautiful job on this restoration with tasteful color, some chrome bling added, a gorgeous bed, and a hot engine, not to mention the couch bench seat, and we are in K20 4×4 heaven. Don’t miss this one even if you are only half interested as it will get picked quickly because it is ripe and righteous.
