Meet JULEBEL!

1961 Cadillac Series 62

The Story of JULEBEL

The JC Moore Funeral Home in Easley, SC purchased the Cadillac new. It was used as a family car. A grave digger named Thomas Gambrell who worked for the funeral home bought it for his wife Julia Belle Gambrell in the early 70’s. She drove this car around Easley until she went to a nursing home in 2017. She passed away on June 1, 2018. The car sat in her carport until a for sale sign was posted in front of the car in her yard in March of 2019. I bought it the day the sign was posted. Mrs. Gambrell was well known in the community. She was a petite woman in this huge Cadillac. She was a regular at the two remaining full service gas stations in town. She was a lady that didn’t pump gas. She and her Cadillac are well known in Easley. Every time I drive it someone says “isn’t that the little old ladies Cadillac?”

The Cadillac is all original except the front brakes have been converted to disc brakes. I installed power front disc brakes, new shocks and new rear drums, shoes and wheel cylinders shortly after buying it. The car is mechanically sound and drives great. The car is good condition overall.

There is no rust in the body of this car other than the two minor spots mentioned below. This car is really solid. Mrs. Gambrell kept the car in her carport when not driven. I have kept the car in a conditioned garage since I bought it. Please see my video of the undercarriage of the car.

Negatives: The heater core has been bypassed. I assume the heater core is bad. The air conditioning does not work. The belt had been removed from the compressor. The car has drips of oil and transmission fluid. Nothing out of the ordinary for a 61 year old original car. The are two spots of rust on the car. 1) passenger side front fender at bottom has rotten spot as large as a man’s fist 2) passenger side rear door at bottom rear of the door has a small area rust area. There is surface rust in the trunk due to a bad trunk seal. The chrome trim for the passenger front door is inside the car. It was slightly damaged while Mrs. Gambrell owned it. It can be repaired and installed. There is a tear in the seam of the driver’s seat. Nothing too noticeable unless you are looking for it.

This Cadillac is an amazing example of a daily driven (until 2017) survivor. I have done my best to care for the car as Mrs. Gambrell did. She loved her car and always told folks like me that she would never part with it,
