This 1959 Edsel Corsair convertible 1 of 1,343 produced in a stunning red and white convertible. It sports the top of the line Super Express Engine (361cid/303hp), dual-power transmission (3-speed automatic), 2.91:1 rear axle, power steering, brakes and convertible top. The VIN confirms that it is a Corsair convertible (the R code) with a Super Express Engine (the W code) and was built in the Louisville, Kentucky production plant (the U code).
The data plate indicates a Corsair convertible (code 76E) as well as an exterior Presidential red and white color (code FF), May 21, 1959, production date (code 21E), dual-power automatic transmission (code 4) and 2.91:1 axle ratio (code 5). Edsel.com reports that less than 6,000 of the 110,847 Edsel’s produced have survived. It has been estimated by other sources that less than twenty-five (25) 1959 Edsel Corsair Convertibles have survived. This car has not only survived, but its frame-off restoration has been officiated and autographed by the original Ford designers of the Edsel, Roy Brown (Head Designer), Jim Arnold and world renowned C. Gayle Warnock — these autographs are located under the trunk panel and bring indisputable provenance to this fine restoration. This car has spent most of its life in a climate controlled garage showing only 3,300 miles. It runs and drives like new and would make a fine addition to any collection or may be used as a daily driver, the choice is yours.
