This rare Mercury is an all numbers matching, nut and bolt frame-off restoration. 23,268 of these cars were produced in years 1957 and 1958. This magnificent piece of automotive history was ordered from the factory with the continental kit option and sports all the correct chrome that adorns that option. It is also the one of the first cars to boast memory seats and a trip computer.
Most cars of that era had aero space design but Mercury turned up the beauty of the Turnpike Cruiser, showcasing a massive amount of chrome, stylish rear fins, and unique features like a compound-curve windshield, vents mounted at the outer edges of the roof, and a retractable rear window.
The 368-cubic-inch 6.0-liter V8 engine 290 horsepower power plant moves this beauty down the road with ease. This car was totally restored in 2006 with less than 100 miles showing on the odometer since the restoration, with the owner spending in excess of $80,000 dollars. The car has been shown in Monterey’s world famous Concours d’Elegance and since has been stored in a climate controlled environment for the past 16 years.
